Rugby Essentials for Young Teams
When coaching a young team you may have many children that
have no rugby experience. It is very important for coaches to show the new
players the correct technique in tackling, handling and scrummaging. Good drills for young, inexperienced players
for each of these skills are knee tackling, horizontal passing in lines of 4
and one on one tackling. Knee tackling helps the kids improve their technique
and teaches them wfhere their body should be in relation to their opposition.
Horizontal passing in lines of 4 involves the players passing to one another
while running in a straight line. A good scrummaging drill for players of all
ages is one on one scrummaging, this teaches the players the best body position
to be in to prevent injury in scrums.
